This policy explains how DealCompass uses cookies on dealcompass.in. Read it with our privacy policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They can help a site remember a choice or recognise a returning visitor. Similar technologies work in the same way.
Our approach
We keep cookies to a minimum. We use one cookie to remember your choice. We use Google Analytics cookies only if you click Accept in our cookie banner. Until you accept, no analytics cookies are set and no data is sent to Google Analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking-for-ads cookies.
The cookies we set
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts | Needs your consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
dc_consent | DealCompass | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we do not ask again on every page | 180 days | No. It stores your choice. |
_ga | Google Analytics (first-party, set on our domain) | Gives your browser a random ID, so that repeat visits can be counted as one visitor | Up to 2 years | Yes. Set only after you accept. |
_ga_ followed by an ID | Google Analytics (first-party, set on our domain) | Keeps track of your session, so that pages viewed can be grouped into visits | Up to 2 years | Yes. Set only after you accept. |
We have switched off Google’s advertising features in Google Analytics. We do not use the data to show you ads.
Staff cookies. When a site editor logs in to manage DealCompass, WordPress sets login cookies on that person’s browser. Visitors do not receive them.
Hosting cookies. Our hosting provider’s security or caching layer may use technical cookies to deliver pages safely. We do not control or use them to identify you. If you see a cookie on our site that is not listed here, please tell us at dealcompassindia@gmail.com and we will explain it or correct this page.
Cookies set by Amazon
When you click a link to Amazon.in, you go to Amazon’s site. Amazon may set its own cookies there, including one that tells Amazon you came from our link, so that we can be paid a commission if you buy. Those cookies are controlled by Amazon and covered by Amazon’s own cookie and privacy notices. See our affiliate disclosure.
What analytics records if you accept
Google Analytics records which pages you view, how long you stay, where you came from, your device and browser, your approximate location, the words you type into our site search and clicks on links that go to other sites, such as Amazon. It does not record what you buy on Amazon. Data is kept for 14 months.
How to change your choice
- On our site: use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page, or open Cookie settings here, and choose Accept or Decline. If you decline, we stop analytics and remove the Google Analytics cookies we can reach in your browser.
- In your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. If you block the
dc_consentcookie, our banner will ask you again on your next visit. - Google’s opt-out: Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every website. You can find it by searching for “Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on”.
Other websites
Our pages link to other websites, mainly Amazon.in. We do not control the cookies those sites set. We do not embed videos, maps or social media widgets on our pages.
Changes
If we change the cookies we use, we will update this page and its date, and we will ask for your choice again if the change needs your consent.
