DealCompass publishes buying guides, comparisons and product pages for shoppers in India. This policy explains how we choose products, how we rank them, where our information comes from, what “tested” means on this site and how we earn money. It applies to every page on dealcompass.in.

What we are trying to do

Most product pages list specifications and stop there. We try to answer the questions a buyer actually has: who is this product for, who should skip it, what do you give up by choosing it, and how does it compare with the alternatives at the same budget. Every guide and product page on this site is written to answer those questions.

How we choose which products to cover

  • Categories. We cover products Indian households search for most: TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, phones, laptops, audio and wearables, home and kitchen appliances, work-from-home and student gear, travel gear, personal care devices, home fitness, baby and kids products, fashion and beauty, and gifts by budget.
  • Listed on Amazon.in. Our buy links go to Amazon.in, so we only cover products that are listed there when we write. This means some good products sold only elsewhere are not covered by DealCompass. We do not claim our guides are a complete view of the market.
  • A spread of options. Where we can, a guide includes different price points and brands, so a reader is not pushed towards only the most expensive choice.

How we rank products

Each guide states its ranking criteria near the top. For a TV guide those criteria are panel type, supported HDR formats, listed speaker output, software support and fit for the budget. For a washing machine guide they would be capacity, wash technology, energy rating, warranty and fit for the budget. The criteria change with the category, and we say what they are every time.

We rank products against those criteria and give a short reason for each position. Labels such as “Best for small rooms” name the situation a product suits. The order is our own judgement. Commission rates do not decide the order.

Where our information comes from

  • The product listing on Amazon.in: title, feature list and specification table.
  • The manufacturer’s own product page, specification sheet and manual, where available.
  • Official ratings and certifications that apply in India, such as the energy star rating on appliances, where they are relevant and available.

When a claim comes only from the listing, we say it is “listed”. We do not copy Amazon customer reviews, star ratings or Amazon’s enhanced product descriptions. We do not invent specifications. If a detail is missing from the listing, we say it is not stated and suggest that you check it before buying.

What “tested” means on this site

Unless a page says that we used a product ourselves, we have not tested it. Most DealCompass guides are research-based comparisons of listed features, trade-offs and value, not lab tests. If we do use a product, the page will say what we did and for how long, and will be marked as a first-hand review. We never say or imply that we tested something when we did not.

Prices and availability

Our guides do not quote prices in the text, because prices on Amazon change often, especially during festive sales. Where a page shows a price, it comes from Amazon’s own product data and is shown with the date and time it was last updated. Otherwise the button reads “Check price on Amazon”. The price you see on Amazon when you buy is the one that applies.

How we make money, and why it does not decide our rankings

DealCompass earns a commission when readers buy through some of our links to Amazon.in. It costs the reader nothing extra. We explain this in full on our affiliate disclosure page.

  • We do not accept payment from brands or sellers to include, rank or praise a product.
  • We do not accept free products or gifts in return for coverage.
  • Brands and sellers cannot preview, approve or edit our content.
  • If any of this ever changes, we will label the page clearly at the top.

Our use of AI tools

We may use AI writing tools to help produce first drafts. A person then edits each guide and checks its claims against the product listing before it is published. We are responsible for everything on this site, whether or not a tool helped write it.

Corrections

If you see an error, a wrong specification, an out-of-date detail or something unfair, please write to dealcompassindia@gmail.com with the page address and what you think is wrong. We aim to reply within 7 days. When we confirm a mistake, we fix the page and update its “Updated” date. If the correction changes a recommendation, we say so on the page.

How we keep guides current

Every guide shows a published or updated date. We revisit a guide when a product is replaced or discontinued, when a specification we relied on changes, when a reader reports an error, and around major sale periods. We aim to review each guide at least twice a year.
